Location ()- Marina Beach, Chennai

After a 10k run at the Marina, Chandru and I stopped by at the Vivekananda coffee house opposite Woodlands. As I was standing there sipping my coffee, I heard a loud skid and as I looked towards the sound, I saw an elderly gentleman riding the bike, getting dragged onto the road. Needless to say, he had no helmet.

I left my coffee there and immediately called in for Chandru who was inside the coffee shop and said we need to go attend to a victim. Chandru, a certified VoICE, rushed to his car to get the ALERT VoICE kit while I ran up to the victim. The victim about 65-67years old was trying to leave the spot, saying he is ok. But I took him to the nearby petrol bunk and made him sit there. It’s only after sitting he realised his trouser was torn in his knee area and had abrasions all over.

I realised today that to have one more VoICE along is a blessing! While I kept asking Chandru for the first aid materials, he kept passing it on to me, thereby avoiding any loss of time. Once I put on my gloves, we cleaned all his bruises with alcohol wipes and then again cleaned them up using Savlon. Since the tincture or the anti-bacterial medicines were not there, we plastered the wounds in his legs, feet, wrist, and made sure he was ok to leave.

Apparently, he was late for his Sunday Mass at the church and hence was speeding. I told him that he got lucky as there was no vehicle behind him and he escaped from any head injuries. Also gave strong advice on wearing a helmet and then left the place.

Thanks to the ALERTian Spirit that didn’t give neither Chandru nor me a second thought, to rush to the spot, although it was just across the road, none of the people in the crowd who were present there at that time tried to help, in spite of seeing the man skid and fall. The man kept repeatedly saying God bless you, God bless you.
