Contribute to the development of more first-aid and emergency response trained citizens
We thank all the supporters of the 2021 VoICE training campaign in generating Rs. 2,25,150 from all across the world. The funds were used to provide 60 free VoICE first-responders
THE PROBLEM
17 lives are lost every minute in India in medical emergencies since 80% of these don’t even receive the first response and over 75% of these victims could be saved with proper first response.
Be it at homes, schools, colleges, workplaces, or on the roads, who is to help a victim before the ambulance arrives? Inaction during emergencies kills more people than natural disasters!
ALERT is an NGO based in Chennai, (ESTD:2006) that works towards a better emergency response ecosystem in India to save lives driven by the goal given to ALERT by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam – “To train one in every family in emergency care.”
While ALERT has been training common people on emergency response and creating First Responders out of laypersons, the availability of a first responder in a given emergency is left completely to chance. The need of the hour is to bring in the aforementioned first responders together at the right time to save a life.
THE SOLUTION
alert VoICE – Volunteers In Case of Emergency – is a community-driven mobile-based application to bridge the demand for emergency help and supply of voluntary first responders. In a conversation by the core team at ALERT with the legendary former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he said – “You need local volunteers to come in on time to bridge the precious gap”. The two watchwords were ‘Local’ and ‘Volunteers’ and thus was born VoICE. With over 13 years of experience and expertise in training a layperson in emergency response, ALERT provides this on-ground intervention that has the potential to transform the emergency response ecosystem of the nation. alert VoICE – the flagship initiative by ALERT is backed up by Apollo Hospitals as Medical Partners and has been recognized by DBS – NUS as one among the “Top 120 Social enterprises to watch for in Asia”. alert VoICE app was launched by Padma Bhushan Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals in Chennai. In his words, “By ensuring the victim stays alive when brought to the hospital, the VoICE gets 99% marks and the 1% goes to the hospital”
THE IMPACT
Imagine you see someone on the road bleeding to death. As a good samaritan you stop by to help but unfortunately, you are not trained in emergency response. That is an awful position to be in, right?
But if you had access to a pool of First Responders who can arrive at the scene before the ambulance and help save the victim, how fortunate would that be?
That is exactly the impact that alert VoICE can create!
If you are a well-intentioned volunteer, it provides you the opportunity to save lives of victims in emergencies and if you are an innocent passerby or a near/dear one of a victim and unequipped to handle the emergency, it gives access to a network of first responders trained and equipped with kits.
In a country where pizza gets delivered faster than ambulance and over 98% of the population lacks awareness on how to respond to emergencies, delivering First Response on-time and on-demand will save lakhs of lives. And this is exactly what alert VoICE as a solution can do.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
Apart from selfless service and sheer passion to address the issue of loss of life, it takes intense training, equipping the responder and inducting and nurturing him/her onto the first responder’s network, which is alert VoICE. The network front-ended by a mobile application needs consistent up-gradation to offer the best possible solution to a given situation of an emergency.
Through this campaign, ALERT plans to add 100 First Responders (thoroughly trained on first-aid & emergency procedures) by raising INR 3,75,000/- (USD 5000)
It takes approx 50 USD (Rs. 3700) INR to train one First-Responder.
This amount raised will be used in developing & maintaining the VoICE (Volunteer In Case Of Emergency) mobile application and, 100 trained first-responders.
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT AND BE PART OF THE CHANGE
First-aid, giving CPR & the process of activating the EMS (emergency response system) are very basic skills that everyone must develop irrespective of which part of the world you live in. While, in many countries, the citizens rely on the advanced life support systems, paramedics, ambulances to arrive at an accident scene within minutes, we continue to hear about lives being lost even by a few minutes of inaction.
We at ALERT request you to learn the first-aid & CPR skills through any which means and, also contribute generously to this campaign
ALERT NGO is 80G, 12A & FCRA certified
